​Special note: New evidence now states that people can drink CLEAR liquids up to 2 hours before surgery. This goes for children as well. If your hospital is not up to date on this, tell them to look at this information Evidence-Based Child Health: A Cochrane Review Journal Volume 1, Issue 1 , Pages 166 – 280 May 2006 This was discussed in the New York Times Q&A Science section on November 28, 2011 confirming that it was safe for adults to drink CLEAR liquids (FYI milk is NOT a clear liquid, or is coffee).
