Lower Risk of Prostate Ca

As published in the journal Cancer, Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention in October 1999

This study was actually designed to look at men who had vasectomies no statistical link found) but they were also questioned about their vitamin use.

Those men who took Vitamin C or E had a 23% lower risk of prostatce cancer while those who took zinc showed a 45% decrease. Although the authors of this study seemed unaware of any other studies on this subject, results of the infamous Finnish betacarotene study also demonstrated reduced risk of prostate cancer with use of Vitamin E (one arm of the study had men taking Vitamin E), BUT it also showed decreased mortality using Vitamin E.

Ann's NOTE: It is my contention that combinations of vitamins will be much more useful than individual vitamins. These studies have not been forthcoming but will be. Use whole foods wherever possible. I suggest juicing as a good source of vitamins along with a good multivitamin. That is defined as one that requires at least 3 pills a day to get all the required nutrients. Not a one-a-day pill. It simply does not contain enough levels of any vitamin to be helpful. Eat organic if possible.

There is a current study on prostate and selenium as well. Again, a single agent but at least vitamins are being examined.
