Evidence Based CAM Sponsored by Annie Appleseed Project, January 9-10, 2008

I believe the conference overall was a huge success, bringing together advocates and practitioners in the forefront offering integrative approaches now and into the future.

To start with, Susan Silberstein, Executive Director of Center for Advancement in Cancer Education, provided an all-encompassing view of nutrition. This detailed the major food groups to consume for proper support during and after cancer treatments. She gave sound evidence as to the function and support of various foods, some of which we know about and a few that were new to some individuals.

I liked that she had full information concerning which sources were provided, which cell activities were stimulated and the best forms to consume. She spoke of an approach that every person can use without formal training or expensive doctors.

I found enlightenment through the presenters who brought up research from the past which has been overlooked in favor of pharmaceutical developments. The iodine, vaccines, herbs used in the Eastern medical philosophy, mind body connection where “something old is made new again”.

This all comes down to money, production and using those methods we feel strongly will affect our health and wellness outcomes. Walking the talk by providing delicious organic foods was a true highlight of the conference. Even employees of the Hilton made positive comments on it being served.

This reinforced the lectures for positive lifestyle changes and presented some participants with their first experience eating organic.

Fewer speakers with more time to give in depth look at their field and experience will be a plus for future endeavors. Too much information either day causes brain overload. It seemed some of the speakers were not prepared for the 20-25 minutes they were slotted for which made for confusion on both parties.

I liked the variety of vendors and the products they offered. All were well informed, not pushy and spoke intelligently of their products. I like that the speakers made me think about future questions, not answering everything as if all the puzzles have been solved.
