In order to identify dietary supplements which prevent development of colorectal tumors, this group tested various supplements of vegetables in one strain of rats. These special supplements were continued for 35 weeks. In week 3, the rats were given an agent that causes tumors. There was a control group. Serum antioxidant capacity was measured in weeks 11 and 33.
A strong preventive effect was observed in the group given spinach as it dietary supplement. Brussel sprout-fed rats had much more incidence of tumor, compared to the control group given what they called the basic Western diet.
