You already know that NIH has a Center for Alternative Medicine which funds research. Some money is spent for cancer research-much of it used to be out of Texas. (See the links for more information). Here is some news out of Canada:

York University Calls for Rigorous Research Into Alternative Therapies (York
University) -- The Centre for Health Studies at York University has
completed the first nation-wide, comprehensive study of the state of
complementary and alternative health practices in Canada calling for
rigorous and expanded research on alternative therapies, a national public
education strategy, and collaboration rather than confrontation between
conventional medicine and alternative practitioners.
