On January 3, William R. Fair, Jr., MD, died at the
age of 66. For 13 years, Bill Fair was chief of
urology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in
Manhattan
He raised the bar of seriousness in the
field of CAM cancer treatments. He was the perfect
embodiment of "Integrative Oncology," which means
taking the best from both conventional and
complementary treatments and subjecting it to a
rigorous, yet sympathetic evaluation.
When the history
of CAM cancer treatments is written, William Fair, Jr.
will be a pivotal figure.
Ann's NOTE: In the excellent obit from the New York Times, it was stated that his son said he remained active up until a few weeks before his death.
He served on the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy and was involved with Haelth, a NYC-based complementary center.
Dr.Murray F. Brennan, his physician at Memorial Sloan Kettering stated: After his recurrence, I think everyone was surprised at how long he lived. Certainly whatever he was doing didn't do any harm.
