Neuropathy

Symptoms include: numbness in hands or feet or both, tingling or burning.

Ann Fonfa:

I began to notice that this was a problem several years ago. Aside from the many women who complained about (seemingly as a result of a taxane drug used in chemotherapy), there were brochurs from a national organization.

I later found that diabetics can suffer from this as well.

Some suggestions I have read about:

Alpha-lipoic acid ( a dietary supplement), I believe I first read about his in Life Extension Foundation's magazine. Check their website at www.lef.org.

Vitamin B12 (from an article by synidcated columnist Dr. Paul Donohue, To Your Health,in the Palm Beach Post).

"The recommended daily allowance for vitamin B12 is 2.4 micrograms. Huge doses of vitamin B12 can penetrate the intestinal wall. (But) B12 deficiency is an uncommon cause of burning feet."

Dr. Donohue did not specifically address peripheral neuropathy as experience by cancer patients on or finished with taxanes.

I have also heard that yoga may be effective in reducing at least the symptoms of this ailment. It has been shown in studies to reduce carpal tunnel problems.

And I recently heard that carpal tunnel is considered part of neuropathy.
