We just found out about this type of cancer at the June, 2006 ASCO (American Society for Clinical Oncology) meeting.
Here is what the Carcinoid Cancer Awareness Network, Inc. has to say about this type (links below):
"Carcinoid Cancer is listed with the National Organization of Rare Disorders. Because carcinoid cancer has been considered a rare cancer, and due to a lack of public attention, the disease has had a low priority for medical research.
Carcinoid is also regularly overlooked during the diagnostic process. Many carcinoid patients go untreated for years, or are told that they have other problems".
"There are many 20 year survivors around. Current research has uncovered serveral promising treatments. As the medical community AND the general public become more aware of carcinoid cancer, more and quicker diagnoses will occur.
