Lesbian and Transgender ACS Project

From the American Cancer Society:

Lesbian and transgender communities have not traditionally focused on cancer as an issue. However, studies suggest that lesbians may be at higher risk of developing breast cancer, diagnosing it in later stages and for suffering ill effects of other cancers, than the general population. And very little transgender-specific cancer research exists at all.

The Lesbian and Transgender Outreach Program links uninsured lesbians and transgender people to free or low-cost mammograms and regular health care. People who have cancer, or know someone who does can also use the program to get support. And we are working to make sure providers are informed and sensitive to lesbian and transgender issues.

In the tradition of the groundbreaking lesbian cancer projects which precede us, this project is community-driven.
