Nasa has invented a probe which can diagnose breast cancer in an
instant.
Astronauts are using is as part of a self-treatment course needed
for when they travel to Mars.
A cluster of microscopic sensors in the needle-like point pass
information about the suspected tumour to a laptop database for
diagnosis.
The so-called 'smart-probe' leaves only a small nick in the skin
and is now being licensed for use around the world.
It was developed to for use on suspected brain tumours but can be
used in any form of cancer diagnosis, reports The Age newspaper.
The instrument could prevent the need for biopsies and the long
wait for results which can take several days.
