A little more from Liz Meyer

I had 2 malignant tumors in my left breast (4 cm, 2 cm) and one lymph node involved. Surgeons insisted on immediate treatment - surgical, of course, and chemo. I've always studied natural medicine as a hobby but also did not know alternatives for cancer. The doctors all insisted alternatives are ONLY FOR HOPELESS CASES.

I felt that while I am strong and healthy, alternatives have the best chance of working; and I don't believe in surgery and chemo as ways of rebuilding health or helping the body to fight disease. I thought my negative feelings about such treatment would cause me to come out on the wrong side of the statistics...

The best advice I got was to take a deep breath and educate myself properly as to the alternatives.

The best single info source I found was the Center for the Advancement of Cancer Education, near Philadelphia.

I went to Klinik St. Georg near Munich, Germany, for 4 weeks at the beginning of the year (having waited not 2 but 3-4 months from my initial diagnosis until I could decide, make arrangements, & wait out the holidays for a flight). My treatments included local hyperthermia (heat), galvanotherapy (electrocutions directly to the tumors), immunotherapy (megavitamin infusions, thymus injections, oxygen, etc.), and things like massage and reflexology on the side.

I should add that this is a normal state-funded hospital in a country which is very strict (say, compared to Mexico) but where complementary medicine - alternative WITH allopathic - is practiced, recognized and respected. Klinik St Georg's director, Prof. Friedrich Douwes, gives his patients choices which include conventional treatments, but he is renowned for his biological treatments for cancer. He is also one of the most intuitive people I have ever encountered, as well as a brilliant and kindly man.

I expected to shrink the tumors and return in a few months for more treatments. At the end of 4 weeks, my tumors were dead. My checkup 2 months later, new fine-needle biopsies (done by Prof. Douwes with no local anesthesia and NO pain during or after) showed that they are scar tissue. I'm a walking miracle.

Alternatives are there. They work. The other patient who went home cured on the same day I did was an Australian policeman from Sydney who'd been told by his doctors 5 months earlier that he had 6 months to live, inoperable liver cancer. His response was a spirited, furious, "How DARE you say that to me?! You really mean YOU don't know how to help me!" He tried all the alternatives he could find, and heard about the Klinik. In Oct. they shrank his tumors, so he came back in Feb., and at the end of his 2-3 weeks there was no more trace of cancer.

There are so many alternatives to surgery, and the prevailing belief I meet in alternative medicine is that surgery can easily spread cancer through the system, eventually causing recurrence or metastases.

Our doctors are woefully ignorant on the subject of alternatives, and cancer patients are not given anything like a realistic picture of the possibilities. The picture I was given included a guarantee that if I didn't have a mastectomy and axillary surgery, my cancer would spread and kill me, leaving my young daughter without a mother. I just couldn't buy it.
