Some years ago I was given a packet of information on this herbal combination. I remember that there was a specific ban on tomatoes. Other food products were NOT to be eaten with this as well.
The clinic in Mexico still exists and it still offers the herbal mixture. Hoxsey's grandfather is said to have found it by watching sick animals choose from weeds and wild-growing herbs.
The ingredients are said to be: Cascara (rhamnus pushiana), potassium idodide, poke root (Phytolacca americana), burdock root (Arctium lappa), barberry or berberis root (Berberis vulgaris), buckthorn bark (Rhamnus frangula, stillingia root (Stillingia sylvatica) and prickly ash bark (Zanthoxylum americanum).
Some of these herbs have been looked at separately and show valuable properties.
This is a list of the herbs and how to use them (from Minnesota Wellness Directory, 5/08)
Glycyrrhiza glabra, 12 g. (Licorice Root)
Trifolium pratense, 12 g. (Red Clover)
Arctium lappa, 6 g. (Burdock Root)
Stillingia sylvatica (toxic), 6 g. (Stillingia Root)
Berberis aquifolium, 6 g. (Oregon Grape)
Phytolacca decandra (toxic), 6 g. (Pokeweed)
Rhamnus purshiana, 3 g. (Cascara)
Rhamnus frangula (toxic), 3 g. (Glossy buckthorn)
Xanthoxylum americanum, 3 g. (Prickly ash)
Combine the dry herbs, place in 3 cups of water and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Cool, strain and store in a dark glass jar.
How to use: 2-4 tbsp. tea in a third cup water adding 1-2 drops of saturated potassium iodide and 5-11 drops strong iodine (Lugol's) solution. Take q.i.d. (four times a day), p.c. (after meals) and before bed. [Natural College of Natural Medicine Pharmacy]
