Helen's comments, January 2008
I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Evidence-Based CAM conference for cancer advocates - 1/10-1/11/08 sponsored by Ann Fonfa, founder of the Annie Appleseed Project. I have been a long time supporter of CAM and my interest increased with the development of a cancer diagnosis.
This conference far surpassed all my expectations. The sheer volume and depth of information regarding cancer prevention and treatment was absolutely incredible. Each day we were presented with continuous lectures delivered by extremely knowledgeable and compassionate researchers, healthcare providers and advocates.
They all had the most impressive credentials and included Timothy Birdsall from Cancer Treatment Ctrs of America, Brian Clement of Hippocrates Health Institute, Lynne Farrow of Breast Cancer Choices, Madeleen Herreshoff patient advocate, Michael Horwin of My Cancer Place, Judith Jacobson of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Care Ctr, Madhavi Kasam, Dr. Shari Lieberman, Dr. George Wong, David Most and others.
I was most impressed by the lecture given by Dr. Stephen Sagar who was trained in the UK but is now practicing in a comprehensive care center in Canada. He was able to demonstrate in a most scientific and profound way the body, mind and spirit connection.
I thought his view of humanity and disease was so thorough, thoughtful and accurate. It is from his wonderful book "Restored Harmony" that I found this wonderful quote which summarizes the lesson learned at this conference "I have the conviction that when physiology will be far enough advanced, the poet, the philosopher and the physiologist will all understand each other" - Claude Bernard (1813-1878)
Thanks again. Helen M.
