Summary: In a prospective study involving 49,920 men aged 40-69 years at baseline, an inverse association was observed between green tea consumption and risk of advanced prostate cancer.

During 11-14 years of follow-up, 114 advanced cases of prostate cancer, 271 localized cases of prostate cancer, and 19 prostate cancer cases of an undetermined stage were newly diagnosed.

An inverse association was observed between green tea consumption and risk of advanced prostate cancer, where consumption of 5 or more cups of green tea/day was associated with a 48% reduced risk of advanced prostate cancer, compared to consumption of less than 1 cup/day.

Thus, the results of this study suggest that drinking green tea may protect against advanced prostate cancer.
