Genetically Modified Fish Species:Ask if Wild or Farmed

According to Environmental Defense, the following fish species are known to have been genetically modified and may be being sold to consumers in and by other countries. Diners may want to look before they eat and make sure that their own source for any of these fish species is the wild ocean and not a fish farm:

Abalone

Atlantic Salmon

Bluntnose bream

Channel catfish

Chinook Salmon

Coho Salmon

Common Carp

Gilthead bream

Killifish

Largemouth bass

Loach

Medaka

Mud carp

Mummichog

Northern pike

Penaeid shrimp

Rainbow trout

Sea bream

Striped bass

Tilapia

Walleye

Zebrafish

Fortunately for seafood lovers who want to keep anything fishy off their plates, a large number of restaurants, distributors, and grocers have pledged not to use or sell GM fish of any kind. The complete list, as well as a variety of other useful information is on the Center for Food Safety's website.
