Improves Immune Function

Exercise has been shown to quickly boost the immune system, research from Korea has found. Looking at 35 patients who had surgery to remove stomach tumors-those who exercised even a little just two days after surgery had stronger immune function than others. Two weeks later, they had significantly more natural killer cells (which attack tumor cells and help ward off infection. Dr. Young-Moo Na of Inje Univ College of Medicine in Koyang City was the lead researcher. Results appeared in June issue of Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 2000;81:777-779
