1/04 IMPORTANT UPDATE

We have received information that Phil Ulan passed away 12/13/03. He wanted us to know that his further experiences with the Klinik St. Georg were not good. He felt that he was not given timely nor appropriate attention. The language barrier was also a problem. His wife has stated that he went to other clinics, including one in Denmark with Dr. Finn Anderson. That clinic was 'disorganized' but good. She said that both his immune system and his spirits were better in Denmark.

Phil also went to Fachklinik Dr Herzog in Bad Saltzhausen, which was less expensive. Ms. Ulan says this doctor was very honest and compassionate and told the truth to them.

He received laser therapy in Denmark which helped with the bone metastasis.

From Phil Ulan:

"My experience at Klinik St. Georg was excellent. The most important part of the visit -- the treatment -- was great; my tumor markers were down significantly meaning that the treatment is working with few side-effects.

I am not cured, but we are hopeful that with further treatment sessions (going back in three weeks), we beat the cancer into remission. The clinic is in a wonderful setting that supports healing.

Specifically, the clinic is set on beautiful grounds. There were many spring flowers blooming, and every morning there were many songbirds filling with air with the most pleasant sounds. I felt at peace there and I find myself wanting to sell my own suburban house and buy a place in a more idyllic setting. Both the staff and the patients make the visit very pleasant. There was a great sense of community among the patients.

We shared information about different treatments that might work. The only negative about this clinic is that it is a little disorganized. Scheduling treatment is sometimes done on a last minute basis. Obtaining a final bill was a problem and there were errors on the bill.

Also, Dr. Douwes, the chief oncologist, is difficult to speak to because he is so incredibly busy. I understand that the Klinik is trying to correct some of these problems.

For example, they recently hired two patient liasons who help patients work out any types of problems from billing problems to exchange money in German banks. Any problems are dwarfed by the benefits of the treatments."
