OBJECTIVES: To eliminate breast cancer in Cameroon I CONTEXT/JUSTIFICATION. 1. Breast cancer exists in Cameroon 2 There are no official statistical data showing its width in the territory 3. Many factors of risk as well as certified cases are abundantly encountered on the spot 4. Lack of adequate sanitary structure for the prevention and the handling of the problems of breast cancer in the country. So, AFEEM/NOLFOWOP, in its global action in favour of women health is paying a special attention to the fight against breast cancer in Cameroon II Realisation A. SPECIFIC ACTIONS OF AFEEM/NOLFOWOP with governmental departments. 1. AFEEM/NOLFOWOP, in order to realize its objectives, is working in partnership with some technical ministries (Departments) on the following schemes. -MINISTRIES OF THE HEALTH. Preparation of a national code policy for the fight against breast cancer in Cameroon. -MINISTRY OF WOMEN'S AFFAIR: + MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE -How to promote a diet in order to prevent breast cancer. -MINISTRY OF SOCIAL AFFAIRS psycho-socio-economic care of women victim of breast cancer. 2. NGO NETWORK. AFEEM/NOLFOWOP have special links with the following NGO: -ROSACAM - CONGEH - COSADER Many openings are being carried out towards other NGO in order to sensitize them in the problems of breast cancer in Cameroon. B- ON IEC LEVEL -Conception of a pamphlet to inform people on breast in CAMEROON -Conception, production and diffusion of folders on breast cancer. -Diffusion of symposium reports on the breast cancer. -Conception of a booklet for association leaders on breast cancer. -Organization of activities with young women and men in urban and rural areas on breast cancer. C- ON THE INSTITUTIONAL LEVEL -Creation of a Centre for the information on women health in general, and for the fight against cancer in particular. -Minimal equipment of the centre. -Recrutment of 5 permanent volunteers to insure the running of the centre. D. On the level of financial and material resources. -AFEEM/NOLFOWOP had submitted a scheme to the local to the local office of WHO (OMS) Cameroon for the training of Association leaders in the fight against breast cancer. The submission had an unfavourable issue. -AFEEM/NOLFOWOP is now working out a trienal scheme. -AFEEM/NOLFOWOP has received some technical and logistic support of some partners. III DIFFICULTIES -lack of national policy for the fight against breast cancer (Mobilization of resources) -Lack of scientific data (statistics) on breast cancer. IV PROSPECTS -The working out of a national policy for the fight against breast cancer. STRATEGIES: Partnership with other NGO for the grindings of a general policy. Submission of suggestions to the MINISTRY OF HEALTH The follow up of the schemes. -Reinforcing institutional abilities of the AFEEM/NOLFOWOP. STRATEGIES: The training of a suitable staff Insuring the development of the centre The setting up of a long term programme with the help of good will donators.
