Chia is an important California Indian food

California Indians to some extent still eat it. Prior to the discovery of the acorn, Chia was consumed even more, but is very labor intensive. We gather it close by and it is a fire follower, so it fits right into our ecology.

We currently gather it and use it our daily lives as well as in our educational displays and talks on native basketry and foods.
