A brother sends his sister emails about his and his wife's stay at this clinic:
Faith,
The name of the facility is the Cancer Center of America they are on the internet at www.cancercenter.com and the main phone number is 1-800-for-help.
They have three locations currently. The primary location is in Zion Illinois. This is where they do the Stem cell transplants and surgery if neccessary.
My understanding is that they are building another facility in pennsylvania. They fly you and a family member here for the initial consultation so it does not matter that they are far away.
They provide the plane tickets. I will tell you all about it when we talk on the phone.
Love Chris
Faith,
It's good to hear back from you. We changed hotels and are staying directly on the shore of lake Michigan. the hospital negotiates rates only 49.00 dollars a night.
Marilyn is getting extremely good care here I will tell you all about it over the phone. We met a couple of woman from New York who had a bad experience at Sloan Kettering and came here.
The hospital picks you up and drops you off at the airport in their own limos from the airport. They have shuttle service running all day long between the hospital and the various hotels people stay in.
There are so many exceptional medical services, and amenities that this clinic offers. Anyone who had been treated anywhere before would immediately know the difference.
Marilyn on her first day received extensive blood work, CT scans of the brain liver, lungs and kidney's, muggiscan and electrocardiogram of the heart.
We're meeting with a Naturopath Doctor at 11:00AM to request a Comprehensive Metobolic Profile and we were told we will get what we request. The CMP test is to determine any deficiencies in minerals, vitamins, etc also a food allergy test, and heavy metals testing.
We will meet with a case manager, medical doctors, stress reduction training, Physchologist, nutritonal counseling and nutritional and cooking classes Tai Chi, massage, and thats only the tip of the iceburg.
They appear to lean toward the use of Chemotherapy for treating most cancers although they do it differently than anyone else we have consulted with. They do it fractionated over three days on your first visit you stay in a hospital room closely monitored. They fly you to their facility at their expense for chemo visits .
I'm sure this is made possible by the high profit margin of the drugs. My understanding is that chemo can run 20,000 dollars a day.
They have a GE Digital PET SCAN machine which can detect distant metastis as small as 6 milimeters. We were told that if insurance doesn't cover something they automatically absorb it such as our 1800.00 hundred dollar deductable. When we talk I will tell you the differences between them and the care we received at home.
They purchased the flight tickets for Marilyn and I to come for the initial evaluation Subsequent visits they pay for Marilyn only. You are not pressured to continue with them after the initial evaluation is complete they leave the decision up to you.
The owner is from a banking family whose mother died from cancer and he did not like the care she received while in the hospital. The hospital doesn't even look like a hospital inside or out.
Although it is quite large not by big city standards smaller than crittenton. Every morning there is fresh cut fruit you can request fresh juices be made which we have done they run the vegetables or fruit through the machine as you are standing there.
There are many choices of very healthy food raw or cooked food and cooked while your waiting. This is not standard hospital fare.
The only thing that they treat is cancer. So far I'm very impressed with the whole operation they have done everything they said they would do.
They have allowed some people we met to begin treatment with no insurance and apply for financial aid to help off-set the cost.
We met a woman who is legally blind and her husband has lymphoma her finances are devastated by the cancer and she has no insurance. She is staying in rooms that the hospital has for 23.00 a night a nice room with shared bath.
This facility covers all the bases. I can't wait to tell you about it so you can tell others if they get cancer. Do you have Mary's email address I had it and left it home.
Marilyn said she would like to go and meet Mary and her husband on Thursday if there free. Mary had asked us if we needed a place to stay we thought we would like to stay one night if possible. I would rather email that way she can respond by email and not feel under any pressure.
If it doesn't work out we are quite comfortable where we are. We are going to rent a car to go to Chicago on Thursday either way to see museums etc. Take care i will talk to you soon.
Love Chris and Marilyn
