Ann's NOTE: At the first World conference on Breast Cancer held in Kingston, Ont, Canada, June 1997, breast cancer advocates from all over the world met for the first time. Rosa was one of the most dynamic of those. She and her husband Danny were powerful representatives - she inspired so many of us!
In the spirit of "Moving Fast Forward and Taking Strong Action," the PBCN wishes to announce the holding the 1st Asia-Pacific Conference on Breast Cancer on October, 2000 here in Manila. This regional initiative of women with breast cancer will have as its objectives the following:
1. formation of the Asia-Pacific Breast Cancer Network
2. formation of breast cancer networks in each country
3. formulation a regional action plan for the eradication of breast cancer
Those among you who may be interested in being a part of the preliminary organizing committee or in simply attending the planned conference,
kindly signify in the soonest time possible so we can later work on the details together.
There have been two world conferences on breast cancer this year: in Brussels last March and in Ottawa last July. On 26-30 September 2000 will be held the 2nd European Breast Cancer Conference in Brussels.
It is high time that the Asia-Pacific breast cancer community gets moving so we can also address our regional concerns on breast cancer.
With much love from beneath my bare chest,
Rosa F. Meneses
