The following was sent to The Oncologist is response to a series of articles (11/02) in their CME (continuing medical education) series on Capcetabine. The articles discussed its use alone and with other chemotherapies.

COMMENTS:
I was very pleased to see reports of studies using
lower doses (than FDA-approved label) of capecitabine.
As a patient and advocate, I am convinced that the FDA-
approved dose is too high. In the clinic, I have been
told that "doctors in the know" are reducing the dose
to help limit toxicity.
Of course the very concept of "doctors in the know"
implies that others are NOT in the know.
Thus the presentation in your journal of studies with
other, lower doses than the FDA-approved one is
encouraging.
